one week down ....

Hello people! I know, I know ... it's been a while. Hey, I'm a busy girl! Well the Camp Team just finished our first week of camp and it went a lot better than expected, actually. I was a little nervous, I didn't really feel like we were ready, but it actually went really well. Much fun! The campers were really cool and gave us a lot of things to laugh about.
My team is really something else! We have so much fun together, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the summer! I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post, but if you want to check and see how we're doing just visit the Maranatha website ... http://www.mbbc.edu/page.aspx?m=1360bc.edu. We'll try to update that every weekend and get some fun pictures on there.
I'd greatly appreciate your prayers for us, we really need them! Hope you all are having a fantastic summer!

me and my "twin"

Well this past weekend I went home with Hayley, and we had a really good time between Chicken Little and just talking (imagine that). As a result of a couple pictures we've taken in the past couple of weeks Hayley and I have decided that we kind of look alike. A couple people around school have called us by the others name. It doesn't help that we both have curly hair and are RA's in the same dorm. Well I didn't know how true this whole looking alike thing was until I visited her church on Sunday...

Well it all started after church. I was talking to the Julie and some of the Messengers, and someone came up to me and mentioned that Hayley and I looked like we could be long lost sisters. So yeah, heard that one before. Okay, but this is hilarious. I was standing there talking and someone came up behind me and hugged me around the waist for an extended period of time. Needless to say I was confused. I don't go to that church and the only people I knew there were Hayley and Julie, and neither of them would really do that. So the person let go, and I turned around to see one of Hayley's friends named Amy, who with a stunned face said, "and you're not Hayley." I laughed so hard ... we both did! Even as I think about it now it makes me laugh. I suppose it's not a bad thing to be mistaken for Hayley, though!

A series of unfortunate events ....

Well the last couple of days have been absolutely insane! Thursday night was the last "Melissa/Jenn/Karin" time of the semester (since Karin has decided to abandon us for her family ... so insensitive). So we went out to Brookfield and went shopping ... sort of. Okay, that mall has a lot of stores, but when it was all said and done we left the mall with one Barnes and Noble bag each. We are dorks.

Upon leaving the parking lot of the mall, we'd casually discussed going to Starbucks in Delafield on the way back. I was driving Jenn's car. 30 minutes down the road we're going 75 down the Delafield exit ramp, Jenn & I screaming in the front ... Karin laughing histarically in the back. Then I went left instead of right ... Starbucks was out of the picture. Then I almost ran a redlight, while laughing histarically. Then we went the wrong way trying to get to the blasted Dairy Queen. But we made it ... it was a completely ghetto establishment, but it served the purpose. Oh man, this is the scary part. So we're leaving the parking lot, gonna turn right at the red light. But alas, a form is walking toward us ... a man, a crazy man ... a man that tried to get in our car! Ahhhh! So I floored it, ran the light, could have died ... while Karin is laughing histarically in the back. Good memories indeed.

Friday was crazy. I'm staying here for summer school, right, so I had to move all my blessed stuff to this blessed dorm. I have a lot of blessed stuff! Anyway. There is a good side to this whole let's-make-Melissa-move-to-a-ghetto-dorm-and-acutally-have-to-live-with-people thing, I'm sharing a 6-man room with Jenn & Heidi! How sweet is that?! Stay tuned as the Chronicles of Summer School unfold....

Flashback

Today I was going through some stuff I've saved on my email account. I read this random forward that I had gotten a while ago that always made me laugh. Okay guys ... be prepared .. we're about to take a trip back to the growing up years with "You know you grew up in the 80's & 90's if ..."

- You've ever ended a sentence with the word "sike" (I think I might still do that)
- You can sing the rap to "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" ... and can do the "Carlton" (Amanda, remember choir tour ... 4 episodes in one night)
- You wore a pony tail on the side of your head (hey, the Melford girls still do)
- You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school (true, true)
- You played the game "MASH" (didn't we play that recently Meagan?)
- You still get the urge to say "not" at the end of every sentence
- You ever owned a pair of jelly shoes (definately did ... I was so cool)
- You remember "I've fallen and I can't get up"
- You have ever played with a skip-it
- You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved by the Bell"
- You ever wore florescent clothing
- You remembered the craze, and the banning of snap bracelets (I always hated those things)
- You had or attended a birthday party at McDonalds
- You wore socks scrunched down (oh heavens yes)
- You used to (and still do probably) say "What you talkin' bout Willis" (I actually do occasionally)
- You can sing the entire theme song to "Duck-Tales" (woo-ooo)

Takes ya back doesn't it?

Summer Team

Well I would have put our name in the title of this post, but we're still deciding what we want to do. It was just going to be Camp Team, which is slightly boring I'm not going to lie, but now we're tossing around the idea of Impact Team.
But anyway. Here are the pictures that we had taken the other day. I'm so excited, we're going to have so much fun this summer!

Seriously, could the weekends go any faster?

Ever wonder why they don't seem to drag on like every other day? There, now you have something to ponder in your free time. I had a pretty crazy weekend. Friday night I had a good "Jenn/Karin/Melissa" time. (It's hard to believe that we've been tight since freshman year, I love you guys and college wouldn't be the same without ya ... look at me gettin all sentimental). Anyway. So we went out to the China Buffet and I have officially decided that I like chinese food. I've always thought it was okay, but I was a little skeptical. Now I'm just skeptical about the China Buffet itself: does anyone else think it's weird that they were playing Phantom of the Opera in there? Whatever. Then we went to the college's rendition of Anastatia, which they did a really good job with. Especially my talented friend Julie who played Anastatia (she's the one in the dress).

Bright and early Saturday the Madrigal choir and some orchestra people left for Frankfort, IL to accompany a church choir in doing Elijah and Resurrection Allelujahs. So Saturday we sang ... alot, and Sunday we sang ... alot. So pretty much our time was spent singing (did I mention we sang a lot, well we did). In between all that singing I got to stay with this family from their church, who were super nice. We watched Chronicles of Narnia, which was totally awesome and something I've been wanting to see forever! It was really good! I read that particular book in middle school, but it was cool watching it now that I'm a college student fully immersed in theology (right Amanda?), and seeing all the things that make it an allegory. So I'd definately recommend that one.

Hmmm, the ride back to campus was interesting. Have you guys ever played my digital camera game? Well, what you do is pick an emotion like "anger" or "joy" and take a picture of yourself trying to make a face that would express that emotion. So me and Amanda had a fun time playing that. Here's some of the byproducts of that game:

This is how you know that a girl is in love (neither of us do this particular expression very well, go figure!)

This is the look that every guy has probably experienced at one point or another (and believe me, there's not love there)

And this is just a picture of us not being total dorks (which is a pretty rare occasion so take it for what it's worth)
